Care socie e cari soci,

insieme agli auguri per le prossime ferie di agosto, vorrei darvi notizia di alcune iniziative, che riguardano la nostra associazione e in qualche caso chiedere il vostro parere.

1. La prossima James Joyce Birthday Graduate Conference si terrà nei giorni 6 e 7 febbraio 2014. Il tema generale proposto è “James Joyce e la sfida del realismo”. Il relativo call for papers, in corso di definizione, verrà messo in circolazione nei primi giorni di settembre. Anne Fogarty interverrà con una preliminary lecture. Nel centenario della pubblicazione di Dubliners un panel sarà dedicato ai racconti. Nel corso della conference verrà presentato il bando per la Giorgio Melchiori Grant.

2. Abbiamo ricevuto l’iscrizione del primo giovane socio sostenitore e una donazione di € 1000,00 da parte di un socio meno giovane.

3. Nel prossimo numero della rivista Joyce Studies in Italy, che sarà in uscita entro la fine di novembre, sarà riservato uno spazio alle recensioni delle pubblicazioni e riedizioni joyciane più recenti. 4. L’ultimo punto, al quale tengo particolarmente, è invece la richiesta del vostro consenso alla mia proposta di nominare Rosa Maria Bosinelli honorary member . Il vostro parere positivo fin da ora permetterebbe di annunciare la designazione nel corso della Graduate Conference e di inserire il nome di Rosa Maria come honorary member sul subscription form 2014.

Dear Members,

Along with my best wishes for the forthcoming holidays, I would like to pass on news of some events regarding our association and also to ask for your opinions on a certain matter.

1. The next James Joyce Birthday Graduate Conference will be held 6-7 February 2014 with the overall theme ‘James Joyce and the Challenge of Realism’. The call for papers is being drawn up at present and will be circulated at the beginning of September. Anne Fogarty will give a preliminary lecture and as this is the centenary of the publication of Dubliners, a panel will be dedicated to the stories. During the conference, applications for the Giorgio Melchiori Grant will be accepted; the application form will be attached to the call for papers.

2. We have recently received fees at the higher enrolment rate from the first young member in addition to a €1,000 donation from a not-so-young member.

3. In the next edition of the periodical Joyce Studies in Italy, published at the end of November, there will be the addition of various reviews of recent publications and new editions of Joyce. 4. The final point, and the one which I feel most keenly about, is to ask you to sustain my proposal to nominate Rosa Maria Bosinelli as honorary member. Your agreement now would already allow us to make the announcement during the Graduate Conference and to add Rosa Maria’s name as honorary member on the 2014 subscription form.
