Verbale dell’Assemblea Annuale Ordinaria

L’assemblea annuale ordinaria dei soci di The James Joyce Italian Foundation, convocata presso i locali del Dipartimento di Lingue, Letterature e Culture Straniere dell’Università Roma Tre, Sala “Ignazio Ambrogio”, II piano, Via del Valco di San Paolo, 19, 00146 Roma, in prima convocazione per il giorno 1 febbraio, 2018, alle ore 7, ed in seconda convocazione per il giorno 2 febbraio 2018, alle ore 16.30 presso gli stessi locali del Dipartimento di Lingue, Letterature e Culture Straniere dell’Università Roma Tre, si è svolta, dopo la verifica del numero legale, con il seguente ordine del giorno:
1.Comunicazioni e relazione del Presidente:
La Presidente informa l’Assemblea della composizione del nuovo Comitato Direttivo eletto nel corso dell’Assemblea straordinaria del 13 settembre 2017: i due soci dimissionari, John McCourt (Università di Macerata) e Ira Torresi (Università di Bologna-Forlì), sono stati sostituiti da Pieter Bekker (University of Leeds) e Fabio Luppi (Università degli Studi Guglielmo Marconi). Alla scadenza dei tre anni del mandato nel 2019 un nuovo Comitato Direttivo verrà eletto, nel corso della prossima James Joyce Italian Foundation Conference in Rome (30 mercoledì -31giovedì gennaio e 1 venerdì febbraio). L’anno scorso i soci regolarmente iscritti erano 90, mentre sono 60 all’inizio di quest’anno. I nomi dei soci verranno pubblicati al più presto, unitamente a questo verbale, sul sito di The James Joyce Italian Foundation (https://thejamesjoyceitalianfoundation.wordpress.com/). Responsabile dell’aggiornamento del sito è ancora Maria Domenica Mangialavori.
2.Approvazione del rendiconto 2017:
Dopo aver distribuito copie del rendiconto del 2017 ai presenti, ne vengono illustrate le entrate (quote associative) e le uscite. Oltre alle tasse governative e bancarie, le spese sono quelle che riguardano il rimborso dei biglietti di viaggio degli ospiti invitati alla X Conference, il pagamento all’editore Bulzoni per il volumetto di Fritz Senn nella Piccola Biblioteca Joyciana (50 copie), il pagamento all’editore eaAnicia per il n.18 di “Joyce Studies in Italy” (60 copie), il pagamento a EdizioniQ per altre 45 copie dei nn.16 e 17 di “Joyce Studies in Italy”, e infine il pagamento in ritardo all’agenzia Manzoni del necrologio del 22 marzo 2016. A fine dicembre 2017 il saldo del conto corrente bancario è stato € 9521,40. La Presidente propone un leggero adeguamento delle quote di iscrizione, invariate dal 2006, anno della costituzione dell’associazioine: € 70,00 i soci sostenitori; €50,00 istituzioni, €40 personale di ruolo dell’università e della scuola, €30,00 studenti e studiosi non strutturati.
3.Giorgio Melchiori Grant 2017/18:
L’associazione ha ricevuto cinque domande per le due Giorgio Melchiori Grant di €500,00, come sempre riservate ai più giovani soci di JJIF, ma nessuno dei potenziali candidati era socio regolarmente iscritto. Di conseguenza non si è potuto procedere all’assegnazione. Per il 2018 viene approvata la proposta della Presidente di assegnare due Giorgio Melchiori Grant di €300,00 (trecento euro) ognuna per studenti e giovani studiosi soci dfi JJIF. Il fine è quello di facilitare la partecipazione di giovani studiosi al XXVI International James Joyce Symposium che si terrà presso il Centre for Manuscript Genetics dell’Università di Anversa tra l’11 e il16 giugno 2018. Il bando verrà pubblicato al più presto sul sito di JJIF. Le domande devono essere inviate entro il 21 aprile 2018 a: joyce.foundation@uniroma3.it.
4.Programmazione attività 2018:
La Presidente dichiara che prima dell’estate ci sarà un call for papers per la XII James Joyce Birthday Conference, che si terrà a Roma dal 30 gennaio al primo febbraio 2019. Se ne darà notizia sia sul sito di JJIF che con messaggi email ai soci. Nel frattempo tutti i soci sono invitati a suggerire temi e titoli prima della fine di maggio 2018.
5.“Joyce Studies in Italy” e “Piccola Biblioteca Joyciana”:
La Presidente ricorda all’assemblea dei soci che, dall’anno scorso, nel corso della registrazione presso il Tribunale di Cassino, la proprietà della rivista annuale “Joyce Studies in Italy” è stata da lei attribuita a The James Joyce Italian Foundation.
Alla fine del 2017 è stato pubblicato dall’editore eaAnicia il n.19 di “JSI”, Joyce’s Fiction and the New Rise of the Novel, a cura di Franca Ruggieri. Il pdf del testo è stato pubblicato sul sito dell’associazione e inviato per email ai singoli soci. Le copie a stampa possono essere acquistate contattando direttamente l’editore.
Il numero 20, “James Joyce: the Joys of Exile”, uscirà prima della fine del 2018. Presto sarà inviato un cfp a coloro che hanno partecipato all’XI Conference: il 29 aprile 2018 è la deadline per inviare proposte di testi da sottoporre al procedimento del peer-reviewing.
Dopo la pubblicazione nel 2017 di Portals of Recovery, di Fritz Senn, vol.14 della “Piccola Biblioteca Joyciana”, il prossimo volumetto della Collana sarà dedicato agli scritti joyciani di Jacqueline Risset, a cura di Laura Santone.

Minutes of The James Joyce Italian Foundation
The Annual Meeting
The annual meeting of the members of The James Joyce Italian Foundation took place at 4.30 pm on 2nd February 2018 at the Dipartimento di Lingue, Letterature e Culture Straniere, Università Roma Tre, Sala ‘Ignazio Ambrogio’, 2nd floor, Via del Valco di San Paolo, 19, 00146 Rome.
The meeting began after verifying that there was a quorum.
- Announcements and President’s report:
The President informed the meeting about the composition of the new Board elected in the course of the Extraordinary Meeting held on 13th September 2017: the two outgoing members, John McCourt (Università di Macerata) and Ira Torresi (Università di Bologna-Forlì) have been replaced by Pieter Bekker (University of Leeds) and Fabio Luppi (Università degli Studi Guglielmo Marconi). At the expiry of the three year mandate next year, a new Board will be elected in the course of the next annual James Joyce Italian Foundation Conference, to be held from Wednesday 30th January to Friday 1st February 2019. Last year there were 90 paid-up members of the JJIF, while today there are approximately 60. The names of the members, along with these minutes, will be posted soon on the JJIF website (https://thejamesjoyceitalianfoundation.wordpress.com/). Maria Domenica Mangialavori continues to be responsible for updating it.
- Approval of the 2017 budget:
Having distributed copies to those present, the 2017 budget was read aloud, noting income (membership fees) and outgoings. Apart from the official stamp duty and the bank account fees, there were expenses for visiting guests (in this case travel costs for the X Conference), the payment to Bulzoni publishers for Fritz Senn’s monograph for the ‘Piccola Biblioteca Joyciana’ (50 copies), the payment to eaANICIA publishers of ‘Joyce Studies in Italy’, no.18 (60 copies ), the payment to Edizioni Q publishers for extra copies of ‘ Joyce Studies in Italy’, nos. 16 and 17 (45 copies) and a late payment to the Manzoni Agency for the cost of the death notice of 22nd March 2016.
As of December 2017, the current account bank balance stands at €9,521.40. The President proposes a slight increase in membership fees, which have remained the same since 2006, the year when The James Joyce Italian Foundation was constituted: €70 for supporting members, €50 for institutions, €40 for full-time/tenured university and school staff and €30 for all non full-time staff of any kind. The meeting approves.
- 2017/18 Giorgio Melchiori Grant:
The Foundation received five applications for the two €500 Giorgio Melchiori Grants for 2017. These are reserved for younger JJIF members, but as the applicants were not officially enrolled as JJIF members, the applicants were not eligible and the grants were not awarded. As to the current year, 2018, the President’s proposal is approved as regards awarding two Giorgio Melchiori Grants of €300 (three hundred euros) to JJIF graduate students. This time the grant is aimed at helping young scholars to take part in the 26th International James Joyce Symposium, ‘The Art of James Joyce’, that will be held at the University of Antwerp’s Centre for Manuscript Genetics from 11th – 16th June 2018. The announcement will be published on the JJIF website soon and letters of application should be sent by 21st April 2018 to: joyce.foundation@uniroma3.it
- Events planned for 2018:
The President announces that there will be a call for papers before this coming summer for the XII James Joyce Birthday Conference in Rome, 30th January – 1st February (Wednesday–Friday) 2019. Notice will be given both online on the JJIF site and by emailing JJIF members directly. In the meantime, members are invited to suggest proposals for themes and titles before the end of May 2018.
- ‘Joyce Studies in Italy’ and ‘Piccola Biblioteca Joyciana’:
The members of the meeting are reminded of the fact that, last year, in the process of registering of the annual journal before the Court of Cassino, the President decided to attribute the property of ‘Joyce Studies in Italy’ to The James Joyce Italian Foundation.
At the end of 2017, the latest volume (no.19) of ‘Joyce Studies in Italy’, Joyce’s Fiction and the New Rise of the Novel, was published by the eaAnicia publishing house, edited by Franca Ruggieri. The pdf of the text was posted on the JJIF website and emailed to the individual authors of the essays as well as to all the members of JJIF. Printed copies can be purchased by directly contacting the publisher.
The next annual issue of ‘Joyce Studies in Italy’ will be published by the end of 2018 with the title James Joyce: the Joys of Exile. A call for papers will soon be forwarded to those who participated at the XI JJIF Conference: the deadline for sending revised papers to Joyce.foundation@uniuroma3.it is 29th April 2018 so that they can be submitted to the peer-review procedure.
After the 2017 publication of Fritz Senn’s Portals of Recovery, vol.14 of the ‘Piccola Biblioteca Joyciana’, a small collection of Joycean writings by Jacqueline Risset edited by Laura Santone will be published as vol.15 in the series.
